Situated on a 25-acre forested site in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, the Reinholds residence embraces its environment through massing, scale, materiality, and performance. The house is positioned at the north side of a meadow adjacent to the forest edge, framing views of the sloped landscape and fostering visual and physical connections to the natural environment, a priority for the client. The main living space anchors the plan, optimizing views of forest, meadow, and an internal court defined by bedroom wings. In addition to using locally sourced and fabricated natural materials throughout the house, the project incorporates high-performance triple-glazed windows, and a super insulated envelope to optimize thermal performance and a low carbon footprint. Remote but resilient, the house will be self-sustaining with a geothermal ground source heat pump system, hydronic radiant heating throughout, and a 25,000-kWh solar array with battery backup.
Sitework has begun and construction completion is anticipated in spring 2026.
